Manipur CM and Legislators Forum raise 12 million for AIDS effort
Imphal, October 6: In a significant step forward in the HIV response in the North-East the Chief Minister of Manipur, Mr. Okram Ibobi Singh, has decided to allocate Rs. 600,000 from the Chief Minister’s Fund to support the activities of the Manipur Legislators Forum on AIDS. In addition, each of the state’s 60 legislators has agreed to pump in up to Rs 100,00 each from the Local Area Development Fund. By pooling their resources, the Government of Manipur and State Legislators Forum on AIDS have altogether raised at least Rs. 12 million for the AIDS effort and demonstrated how to make such Forums self-sustainable.
