Division of
Labour - India
UNAIDS and its ten Cosponsors work to provide technical
support to countries to assist them in the implementation of their national
AIDS plans.
To ensure countries receive the best technical support in specialised areas, and to avoid duplication, a division of labour guides the technical support offered. Based on the
comparative advantages of each of the UNAIDS organizations, the division of labour enables UNAIDS to deliver a unified and consolidated
UNAIDS-sourced technical support plan throughout the programme.
In 2005, an interagency working group was convened to
agree the division of labour. The group agreed on 17
broad areas of UNAIDS technical support and identified a Lead Organization
and Main Partners in each of these areas.
Each of the UNAIDS organizations leads in at least one
technical area. For example, the lead organization with responsibility for
addressing HIV among displaced populations is the Office of the United Nations
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The division of labour amongst
UNAIDS and its cosponsors has been adapted in India in accordance with the
countrys priorities and situation in
consultation with the cosponsors. The technical support areas (24), the lead
organization and main partners are detailed below in matrix and flow chart
formats for user convenience. The name and e-mail address of the staff member
in UNAIDS India Secretariat designated as focal point for each area of work is
mentioned alongside the respective area of work.
